About
a little more about me.

Artist Name: i wish i had a futon Name: Zarlia Brown born: 7/3/2002 Pronouns: She/her Located: Adelaide, Australia Instagram: @iwishihadafuton
I’ve always had passion and interest in art and technology. I’m constantly consuming anime, animated movies and manga. I’m an emotional bean and find myself so easily moved by animated films, especially romances. The stories told are often more solid and engaging to me than anything else I consume. Each time I watch Studio Ghibli or Pixar film (naming some of my favourite studios here) I feel that spark of inspiration and get hit with, “I want to make that! Be apart of that team! Show the world beautiful stories and stunning animation, hard work that pays off!”. So, this is the beginning of my journey! I’ve become an artist under the name,
i wish i had a futon.
Art is my biggest hobbie. I enjoy ceramics, sketching, model building, digital art, gaming, film & animation, reading (mangas), fashion, music and acrylic painting.
On my Educational path, I’ve completed a Certificate III in Graphic Design through TAFE SA, I learnt about typography, product packaging, meeting clients needs and sticking to a brief. Learning graphic design was a good step up in the knowledge department but, wasn’t quite what I wanted to do. I got into Flinders University and studied a Degree in Fashion Design. Expecting it to be my calling, after a year and a half, I realised it wasn’t. I’m still happy I tried and for the skills I gained, It’s like they say you won’t know until you try.
In 2022, I discovered procreate and I felt like it was time to give it a try. Slowly I’ve been teaching myself new techniques in procreate along with discovering my style and growing my portfolio. Since then I’ve been in full time working mode. I started saving up some money, took a trip to Japan, moved out of home and let life chart its course, all while still trying to figure out where to take my career next. I’ll be starting a Diploma of Screen and Media (Animation, Gaming and Visual Effects) through TAFE SA in 2024. I’m hoping the Diploma will broaden my skills and help me figure out what it is specifically I want to do within this industry.
Ultimately, I want to improve and grow as an artist, experience as much as I can and learn from great and talented individuals within this industry. Start working for an animation company and from there I would just love to share my creations with the world.
So! if anyone who’s in the industry is reading this it’d mean the world to me if you’d give me a chance! Whether that be feedback or a job offer or just your friendship please! Contact me! You won’t regret it :)
